According to a statement from the Greek Prime Minister’s Office, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis received U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, who is visiting the capital, Athens.

According to the statement from the Greek Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis welcomed U.S. Secretary of the Interior Burgum in Athens.

During the meeting, the topic of enhancing cooperation in the field of energy was discussed.

In his remarks during the meeting, Burgum noted that U.S. President Donald Trump has specific goals in the energy sector, one of which is energy sufficiency. He said,

“One of our goals is to sell energy to our friends and allies so they don’t have to buy it from our competitors.”

Burgum emphasized that Greece’s experience in maritime affairs provides opportunities for cooperation, and added:

“Of course, the U.S. intends to replace Russian gas with American gas. Hundreds of billions of dollars are being invested in our country for both the production and export of LNG. This is one of the opportunities that has emerged for cooperation between our countries.”

Prime Minister Mitsotakis said,

“We are looking forward to further strengthening this alliance, which I believe will benefit the people of both countries.”
