President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made statements following the Cabinet Meeting held at the Presidential Complex.

President Erdoğan said that the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant would play a historic role in Türkiye’s energy equation.

He stated that with the commissioning of the plant, which has a total installed capacity of 4,800 megawatts, they would finally be making a long-overdue breakthrough. Erdoğan emphasized that Akkuyu would save Türkiye from the annual import of 7 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

He also underlined that the plant would contribute $50 billion to the country’s gross domestic product.

Addressing objections to nuclear energy, Erdoğan said:

“Opposing the nuclear power plant can only be explained by ill intent, if not by ignorance. Such a shallow mindset brings no benefit to our country or to our brothers and sisters in Sinop.”
