Following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting, President Erdoğan emphasized that Türkiye has made significant strides in the energy sector in recent years. He stated: “We are increasing the number of our deep-sea drilling ships from 4 to 6. With the addition of the new ships, we will hopefully rise to 4th place in the world as a deep-sea drilling fleet.”
Türkiye is moving toward a historic turning point in the energy sector. The process that began with the discovery of massive natural gas reserves in the Black Sea continues unabated with increased production capacity and the strengthening of energy fleets.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Complex.
As part of efforts to reduce foreign dependency in energy, operations in the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea have started to yield results. In the first phase, a total of 9.5 million cubic meters of natural gas is being produced daily from 12 wells. President Erdoğan noted that this gas currently reaches approximately 4 million households.
DAILY OIL PRODUCTION REACHES 170,000 BARRELS
Thanks to ongoing oil exploration efforts both domestically and abroad, Türkiye’s daily oil production has reached 170,000 barrels. This development is of critical importance for strengthening energy supply security and reducing foreign exchange expenditures.
To enhance its deep-sea drilling capacity, Türkiye is expanding its fleet. The number of deep-sea drilling ships, currently at four, is set to increase to six through new investments. With this expansion, Türkiye aims to become the fourth most powerful nation globally in this field.
GOAL: FULL ENERGY INDEPENDENCE FOR TÜRKİYE
President Erdoğan emphasized that energy investments will continue with determination. He stated that natural gas and oil exploration, drilling and production activities will intensify in line with the vision of a “Fully Independent Türkiye.”
“WE HAVE MADE GREAT STRIDES IN ENERGY IN RECENT YEARS”
Commenting on the topics discussed during the meeting, President Erdoğan said:
“We have made great strides in energy in recent years. In 2020, we made the largest natural gas discovery in our history in the Black Sea. We completed the first phase at the Sakarya Gas Field with daily production of 9.5 million cubic meters from 12 wells. Our domestic gas is currently being used in 4 million households. Our daily oil production, both at home and abroad, has reached 170,000 barrels. We are continuing our investments to strengthen our fleet. We are increasing the number of our deep-sea drilling vessels from 4 to 6. With the addition of our new ships, we will hopefully rise to 4th place in the world in terms of deep-sea drilling capacity. We will continue to work tirelessly and expand our investments until we achieve the goal of a fully independent Türkiye in energy.”
